Marie Curie Cancer Care Street Collection |
|
|
|
Over the weekend of 15/16 February, Lions were busy on the streets of Aberystwyth, fundraising for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity. Over that month Lions Clubs throughout our District were doing the same in towns throughout the west country and south and west Wales. Our Club raised a total of £746.70p, all of which was sent to Marie Curie. If you want to know more about the work of this very good cause, go to our links page where you can access their website.
And that's not all because we are still counting the proceeds of our winter charity walk which will also go to this deserving organisation.

Mr. John Hefin, Director of the greatly acclaimed film "Grand Slam" televised in 1978, was the guest speaker at the February Dinner Meeting. His recounting of the events and characters involved in creating the film was most entertaining and interesting and was thoroughly enjoyed by members and guests.
The photograph shows John Hefin with his recently published book on the film which is aptly titled "Grand Slam".

After a lapse of a few years, the Annual Lions Treasure Hunt was re-commenced on 23 September 2007.
Seven teams departed from the Plas Antaron Hotel armed with sheets of cryptic and not so cryptic clues carefully prepared by Lions Mike Taylor and Eric Owen. After some 2 hours of frustration and many U turns in the surrounding villages and countryside, the teams arrived back at the Hotel and presented their results for adjudication.
The adjuticators, decided that the trophy would be awarded to Lion Bob Williams' team whilst the also-rans, were Lion Graham Colledge's team.

..... whilst Lion Graham's team receive an award to provide them with the means of showing a cleaner pair of heels next year! |
However, a contentious issue arose when the "winners" were informed they had to go to the trouble of organising next year's Treasure Hunt!
All participants then enjoyed Sunday Lunch at the Hotel.
